Hype5 Theater

Hype5 Theater is a WordPress plugin for theatres. It stores productions, people, credits, venues and performances, and presents them on the theatre's own website.

Key concepts

A few ideas run through the whole plugin. Knowing them makes every screen easier to understand.

Concept Meaning
Production (lavastus) The work: its story, facts, credits, media and visitor information. A production has its own page.
Performance (etendus) One date on which a production is played, with its venue, time zone, status and ticket offers. Performances are separate records, not part of the production form.
Credit One relationship between a name and a production — for example Director or Actor playing Nora. A credit can point to a person profile or simply carry a name.
Person (inimene) An optional public profile. A full cast list never requires a profile for everyone.
Venue (mängupaik) A place where performances happen, with accessibility defaults that its performances inherit.
Ticket offer A link to an external seller, with prices and availability. Hype5 does not sell tickets.
Collection A public list: productions, people or the schedule.

Four statuses are kept apart, and changing one never changes another:

Status Values Belongs to
Publication WordPress's Draft, Pending review, Published, Scheduled, Private; visibility public or password protected the production (or person, venue)
Repertory Coming soon, Playing, On hold, Archived the production
Occurrence Scheduled, Sold out, Cancelled, Postponed each performance
Ticket availability Available, Sold out, Closed, Unknown each ticket offer

Hype5 never archives a production automatically, and an archived production keeps its address.

Where things are

Hype5 Theater is managed in the Hype5 app (code name Fuajee): Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar opens it, and its own navigation leads to every task. See The Hype5 app.

People People (Inimesed)

Venues Venues (Mängupaigad)

The plugin's WordPress screens remain as compatibility screens: the WordPress lists and editors for tasks the app hands to WordPress (bulk actions, Trash, revisions), System Status for diagnostics, and the classic Hype5 Theater menu for sites that switch the app off. Everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission opens the app; there is nothing to switch on. See Who can open it.

From content to website

  1. Enter productions, people, venues and performances.
  2. Publish a production when it is ready. Only productions published without a password appear in public lists, person profiles and the general schedule.
  3. Present the content: each production and person has its own page, and the productions list, people directory and schedule have built-in addresses. You can place lists on your own pages with shortcodes or blocks. See Public display and themes.
  4. Style the output in the Appearance studio, or with a theme such as Hype5 Stage.

Not part of Hype5 Theater

Ticket sales, payments, seating plans, maps, geocoding and routing, and customer accounts are not part of the plugin. Ticket offers are links to the sellers you already use; venue coordinates are stored but not shown on a map.
