Hype5 Theater

Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 is the first version with its own number. Before it, the version number 0.6.17 was carried through several pre-release development phases; those builds are listed below 0.7.0, newest first. This documentation describes 0.7.0.

0.7.0 — security, compatibility and the Hype5 app for every Hype5 Theater administration permission (19 October 2026)

Beta — by invitation. Database schema 5; no data migration.

  • Version 0.7.0 and the presentation API 1.0. 0.7.0 replaces the number 0.6.17 that the Phase 5A to 5K builds shared. The new constant HYPE5_THEATER_API ('1.0') names the public presentation contract for themes and add-ons; the visibility service Data\Visibility is now Stable, with the new methods own_page(), presentable() and identity_only(). Tested with Hype5 Stage 1.0.2, which the release metadata names as the minimum and tested Stage version; tested up to WordPress 7.1. See Presentation services.
  • The Hype5 app for everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission. The access list of 0.6.17 is no longer read (the stored option is left as it is). Everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission — content, Schedule, Settings, Appearance or a vocabulary — gets the single Hype5 Theater entry that opens the app, and the app's private API also requires such a permission; every screen and request keeps its own check, and nothing grants a permission. Users who may only configure the plugin are pointed to Settings, Vocabularies and Appearance from the Overview; Settings → Advanced shows the rule. define('HYPE5_THEATER_FUAJEE', false); switches the app off for everyone; the hype5_theater_fuajee_enabled filter now receives true by default and can switch the app off or on per user. See The Hype5 app.
  • Public visibility of password-protected and translated productions (the nine findings of the Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 report): no-cache headers wherever an answer depends on a production's password, also across language versions, for a schedule the page's address filters to one production and for the filtered REST routes; production shortcodes and blocks on another page, and WordPress's own feeds, archives, search results and core REST answers, show a password-protected production as protected also after the password was entered (its own page keeps WordPress's unlocking); the productions list's next order and city filter, and schedule counts, use only productions public to everyone; a published translation of an unpublished original shows only its title, address and poster; visitors' search leaves out every language version of a production with a password in its chain; with different passwords on two language versions, each page's password opens its own dates and offers, and a draft version's password never opens the original. See Security and content visibility.
  • Capabilities on update. A version change adds only capabilities the plugin has not granted before (recorded in the new hype5t_caps_granted option); capabilities removed from a role or explicitly denied are not given back, and the Theater Manager role is created only on a site where the plugin never installed its capabilities — a deleted role stays deleted, also on reactivation. See When the role is created.
  • Pickers in the Hype5 app (Story genres and audience recommendations, every multi-select, the Schedule's production filter, the time-zone list): options keep their height and the list scrolls. A long, wrapped label used to run into the next option, so that a click on its last line selected the option below.
  • Updates and rollback. The update client asks the update service for the stable channel only, so a pre-release is never offered automatically. Rolling back to a 0.6.x version gives the full capability set back (see Rolling back).
  • Compatibility is now stated as Tested, Tested (limited), Simulated, Not tested or Not supported for every component; WPML was only simulated and is not a supported integration. See Compatibility.

0.6.17 — Hype5 Theater opens the app (19 October 2026)

Navigation change after Phase 5K; no database, option or version change.

  • One menu entry. For users with the Hype5 app, Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar is a single entry that opens the app; the classic submenu (Overview, Content, Schedule, Add-ons, Settings, System Status, Vocabularies, Appearance) is no longer shown to them, and nothing is called a preview. In these builds access to the app was still enabled per site (an access list or a constant); since 0.7.0 it follows the users' permissions.
  • Compatibility screens. The classic screens keep their addresses, permissions and forms. Plain addresses of the screens the app replaces open the matching app screen; System Status, the WordPress lists and editors stay WordPress screens and are opened from the app. Users without the app keep the classic menu.
  • Settings no longer offers the classic Settings, Vocabularies and Appearance screens as parallel workflows; Settings → Advanced leads to System Status.

0.6.17 — Phase 5K build (19 October 2026)

  • Public visibility hardened. On multilingual sites where only one language version of a production has a password, its credits, sections, dates and offers no longer appear through another version — on the production page and its shortcodes, in lists, in the general schedule and in the public REST routes.
  • Hidden person profiles stay out of site search, feeds, the people archive, REST search and oEmbed, also for translations of a hidden original.
  • Translations: the next performance, the city filter and the next order work for translated productions; schedule rows name the production in the reader's language.
  • Classic screens: Open in Hype5 app on every classic Hype5 screen for users of the app (then a preview); aligned labels (Schedule, Vocabularies, Audience recommendations).
  • Templates and blocks: the production.performance template is version 1.1.0 with a withheld state; the productions block's editor preview works.
  • Accessibility fixes from an automated scan.
  • English documentation for this site. No database change.

0.6.17 — Phases 5I and 5J (18 October 2026)

  • Appearance studio in the Hype5 app: theme, production page, person page, lists and pages, and texts, with inheritance shown per setting, a preview from real published content, and area-by-area saving that protects others' changes.
  • Custom CSS now requires edit_css, as WordPress's own Additional CSS, also on the classic Appearance screen. Labels are limited to 500 characters.
  • Vocabularies in the Hype5 app: genres, audience recommendations, warnings and professions with pause, reactivate and delete-when-unused; the four content-type option lists.
  • Settings in the Hype5 app, in eight tabs; display defaults, single pages and permalink bases save independently.
  • New terms can be added directly from the production and person editors.
  • Password-protected productions (correction before 5I): cards, person profiles, the general schedule, schedule shortcodes and blocks no longer show a protected production's dates, ticket offers, credits, teaser or audience figure.

0.6.17 — Phases 5E to 5H (16 October 2026)

  • Schedule in the Hype5 app: agenda and table views with filters in the address, the performance panel with ticket offers, services and accessibility, and the composer for single performances, copies, replacements, series and tours. Saves are all or nothing; retries never add performances twice.
  • Venues in the Hype5 app: list, editor, live accessibility inheritance to performances, usage, Trash and permanent deletion with their real consequences.
  • The production editor is complete in the Hype5 app: media and materials, visitor information, partners and links, and display.
  • Overview start screen with this week, next performances, items that need attention and getting-started steps.
  • Line breaks are kept in warning, accessibility, parking and visitor texts; production-tagged images appear on person pages only while the production is public.

0.6.17 — Phases 5A to 5D (14–15 October 2026)

  • The Hype5 app (Fuajee) introduced as a feature-flagged preview inside wp-admin, with productions, the credits editor (Meeskond), story and details, the publishing panel, new productions, and people (list, editor and creating a person from the credits editor).
  • WordPress's edit lock is shared between the app and the classic editor; the classic editor no longer overwrites fields changed elsewhere after it was opened.
  • WordPress password protection is honoured in every public production view.
  • Saving no longer depends on the X-HTTP-Method-Override header that some proxies remove.

0.6.6 to 0.6.17 — internal candidates (10–11 October 2026)

Administration workspaces for content, Appearance, lists and settings; scoped public typography, cards, schedule tables and empty states; compatibility fixes for themes that reset element styles; layout previews in Appearance. Database schema 5.

0.5.0 and 0.5.1 (6 October 2026)

Multiple ticket offers per performance with prices and availability (migration from single ticket links); room and end time, attendance, events and services; venue accessibility inheritance with per-performance overrides; cancellations and replacement performances; schedule administration with Quick Add, multiple dates and tour entry.

0.4.0 and 0.4.1 (6 October 2026)

Person profile sections and person shortcodes; alternating casts with linked and free names; gallery ordering; localised lightbox controls; Estonian translation updates.

Hype5 Stage

1.0.2 — 19 October 2026

Security and Hype5 Theater compatibility update. The design, styles, settings and texts are unchanged.

  • Protected productions no longer appear on the home page or in the menu. With Hype5 Theater's Phase 5K build, Stage 1.0.1 could print the date of a production whose reader's-language version had a password (in the Marquee and the menu's Next on stage) and counted it among the performances ahead; after a visitor had entered a password, the home page showed that production's time, venue, ticket price and cast. Stage now applies the plugin's rules: on every page other than a production's own page only productions that are public to everyone are shown, also after a password was entered; the production's own page keeps WordPress's password unlocking.
  • Production cards, roles lists, the poster wall and search results use the same rule; the poster wall leaves out productions that are not public to everyone; search and archive cards show only the title whenever the plugin's rule is unavailable.
  • Template override production.performance 1.1.0: a performance the plugin withholds renders nothing. System Status now reports all 21 Stage overrides as Current.
  • Production pages whose password is set on any of their language versions are sent with no-cache headers.
  • The count of performances ahead is not shown above 500 upcoming performances.
  • The enhancements now require Hype5 Theater's Phase 5K presentation contract (earlier builds report the same version number, 0.6.17).
  • New regression tests for protected productions (single and mixed language; guests, subscribers, administrators and visitors who entered a password) that fail on 1.0.1 and pass on 1.0.2.

1.0.1 — 18 October 2026

  • Cinematic production hero: the plugin's shade no longer darkens the credits, facts and booking card below the picture.
  • Compact productions list: title and dates share one row.
  • Hype5 Theater enhancements now require Theater 0.6.17.

1.0.0 — 18 October 2026

First release, from the approved design The Presence: classic theme with theme.json; Lights up, Lights down and System; bundled Bricolage Grotesque and Newsreader Italic; the Marquee home page with optional full-bleed photograph or film; templates for pages, posts, archives, search, 404 and comments; Hype5 Theater presentation through the plugin's public template contract, with stricter visibility for password-protected productions; works without Hype5 Theater; Estonian translation.

Hype5 documentation

0.3.2 — 20 October 2026

  • Screenshots approved by the owner after the demo's British configuration: the Appearance studio (new on Appearance), and the Schedule agenda and performance panel with British dates on Schedule and performances.

0.3.1 — 20 October 2026

  • The fictional Black Box Theater demo now uses British English, the date format j F Y and the English permalink bases productions, people, venues and genres: the demo example on Settings, date-format examples on Translation and localisation, and English (UK) sites described.
  • Availability wording: Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 is a beta given to invited sites (release tag v0.7.0).
  • Screenshot workflow: a changed image of an approved screenshot waits as a replacement candidate for the owner's review while the approved image stays published.

0.3 — 19 October 2026

  • Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 (Beta — by invitation, presentation API 1.0): versions, changelog and compatibility; every Theater page reviewed against 0.7.0.
  • The Hype5 app for everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission: the access list, "enabled per site" and "rollout pending" statements removed; switching the app off (HYPE5_THEATER_FUAJEE, the per-user filter); capabilities on update and on rollback; the classic menu only where the app is switched off.
  • Visibility: pages other than a production's own page never depend on an entered password; translations of unpublished originals; no-cache headers; search, counts and the productions list order; the five limitations found with Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 marked resolved.
  • Presentation services: the visibility service is Stable (presentation API 1.0), with own_page(), presentable(), identity_only() and the supported Theater/Stage combinations.
  • Compatibility: an explicit matrix — Tested, Tested (limited), Simulated, Not tested, Not supported — for WordPress, PHP, databases, themes, translation plugins, caches, search, editors, browsers and updates; WPML is not described as supported.
  • The documentation for Hype5 Theater 0.6.17 is kept as the archived edition theater-0.6.17, with its offline manuals unchanged.
  • Offline manuals are named with the documentation version (for example hype5-stage-1.0.2-documentation-0.3.0.zip), so a file name never stands for different contents.

0.2 — 19 October 2026

  • Hype5 Stage 1.0.2: version, compatibility, visibility behaviour, template overrides, known limitations and changelog.
  • Known limitations for password-protected and multilingual productions found while testing Stage 1.0.2.
  • Hype5 Theater's administration described app-first: Hype5 Theater opens the Hype5 app; the plugin's WordPress screens as compatibility screens; old addresses; System Status through Settings → Advanced; the classic menu only for users without the app.
