Installation
Both products are installed from ZIP files through the WordPress administration. Install Hype5 Theater first if you use both.
On this page
Before you start
- Check the requirements.
- Back up the database and files of an existing site.
- Sign in as an administrator.
- Have the product ZIP files ready. The installable ZIP of each product is separate from its offline documentation ZIP.
Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 is a beta by invitation: it has not been published and has no public download. Its ZIP is given to invited sites; see Documentation versions.
If you use both products, install Hype5 Theater first and then Hype5 Stage. The order is not required — Stage detects the plugin whenever it is active — but entering a production or two before switching themes lets you see Stage's theatre pages straight away.
Install Hype5 Theater
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the plugin ZIP (for example
hype5-theater-0.7.0.zip). Its top-level folder ishype5-theater/. - Select Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
On a multisite network, activate the plugin on each site individually; network activation is stopped with a message.
What activation does
Activation:
- registers the content types (productions, people, venues) and their taxonomies;
- creates or updates the plugin's database tables (credits, performances, ticket offers, media links);
- on a site where the plugin never installed its capabilities, adds them to the Administrator role and creates the Theater Manager role; a later activation (for example after deactivating) gives back no capability you removed and recreates no role you deleted (see User roles and permissions);
- adds starting vocabulary terms whose names do not exist yet: audience recommendations (3+, 7+, 12+, 14+, 16+ and three descriptive ones), eight warnings in the categories technical and content, and thirteen professions (this also runs on later activations and database updates; see Vocabularies);
- refreshes WordPress's address (rewrite) rules.
If a database update cannot finish (for example because of missing database permissions), administrators see the notice Hype5 Theater database setup is incomplete and the update is retried on later admin page loads.
Check the installation
Open Hype5 Theater → Settings → Advanced and choose Continue in WordPress: System status (classic menu: Hype5 Theater → System Status; the screen's address is wp-admin/admin.php?page=hype5t-status). It lists the plugin version, the database version, the WordPress and PHP versions, the site time zone and whether each plugin table is Ready. It also reports theme template overrides (see Template overrides).
Everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission opens the plugin's administration, the Hype5 app, from Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar; there is nothing to switch on.
Languages
The plugin is written in English and includes an Estonian translation (text domain hype5-theater). Each user sees the administration in their own WordPress language. See Translation and localisation.
Install Hype5 Stage
- Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme.
- Choose the theme ZIP (for example
hype5-stage-1.0.2.zip). Its top-level folder ishype5-stage/. - Select Install Now, then Activate.
- Open Appearance → Customise → Hype5 Stage to review the settings. See Theme settings.
Switching themes in WordPress changes how menus and widgets are assigned. After activating Stage, check Appearance → Menus (assign the Main menu, Footer: Explore and Footer: legal links locations) and Appearance → Widgets (Footer columns). See Navigation, header and footer and the more detailed Stage installation page.
Deactivation and removal
Hype5 Theater. Deactivating the plugin refreshes the address rules and leaves all data in place. The plugin has no uninstall routine: removing it keeps every production, person, performance, credit, setting, the Theater Manager role and the capabilities. Reinstalling the plugin makes the data available again.
Hype5 Stage. Switching to another theme leaves Stage's settings stored as WordPress theme modifications, so they return if you activate Stage again. Stage stores no theatre data, so changing themes never affects productions, people or performances.
