Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 · Pre-release
Compatibility and troubleshooting
Stage works on any WordPress 6.6+ site, with or without Hype5 Theater. Most questions concern menus, the logo, the home page or the plugin version.

Problems and solutions
Production pages look like ordinary posts
Stage's theatre templates are off. Check that:
- Hype5 Theater is active and is version 0.7.0 or a 0.6.17 Phase 5K build (Plugins, or Hype5 Theater → Settings → Advanced). Earlier builds also report 0.6.17 but lack the visibility service Stage needs, and Stage then runs as a plain theme;
- no code returns
falsefrom thehype5_stage_theater_enhancementsfilter.
The menu shows only some items
The header shows top-level menu items only, by design — there are no drop-down menus. Move deeper pages into the Footer: Explore menu or link them from their parent page.
The menu shows pages I did not choose
No menu is assigned to the Main menu location, so Stage shows its fallback: the Hype5 Theater collections and up to five top-level pages. Assign a menu in Appearance → Menus.
My footer widgets disappeared after switching to Stage
Stage's Footer columns area deliberately has its own ID, so the previous theme's footer widgets are not moved into it. Add widgets in Appearance → Widgets. Your previous theme's widgets are still saved by WordPress (often under Inactive widgets).
I cannot upload my SVG logo
WordPress does not accept SVG uploads, and Stage does not enable them because of the risk of scripts in SVG files. Export a PNG of at least twice the displayed size. See Logo and site icon.
The logo disappears in Lights down
Turn on Blend a dark single-colour logo into the page, or upload a logo that works on dark grounds. Leave blending off for multi-colour logos.
The home page shows no performances
- Hype5 Theater must be active, and productions must be published without a password with future performances that are Scheduled or Sold out.
- Test or sample productions with earlier dates are shown first if they are the nearest performances. Stage has no exclusion rule for test content: unpublish such productions, make them private or move their dates.
The film does not play by itself
By design it never plays by itself on phones, with reduced motion, Save-Data or slow connections, or after the visitor has paused it. On large screens check Play the film by itself on large screens and that the film files are self-hosted WebM or MP4.
The header button is missing
It is hidden when it has no link: enter a link in Customise → Hype5 Stage → Header and footer, or activate Hype5 Theater (the default link is the schedule).
Content Security Policy
Stage loads Hype5 Theater's stylesheets into a cascade layer through an inline <style>@import …</style> element, and sets the colour scheme before the page is drawn with a small inline script. If your site sends a Content Security Policy that forbids inline styles or scripts, either allow them (for example with a nonce or hash supported by your security plugin), or switch the layering off with the hype5_stage_layer_theater_styles filter — the styles still work, with more specificity contests.
System Status recommends reviewing a Stage template
With the Hype5 Theater Phase 5K build or 0.7.0, Stage 1.0.1's production.performance override is reported as Review recommended (1.0.0 against the plugin's 1.1.0). Update to Stage 1.0.2: all 21 of its overrides are reported as Current. See Template overrides.
A plugin update changed my production pages
If a Hype5 Theater template moves to a new major version, Stage uses the plugin's own template for that part until Stage is updated. Test Stage after every plugin update.
Performance tips
- Stage's stylesheet is about 15 KB compressed; production pages also load Hype5 Theater's two stylesheets.
- Consider a page cache once the site is public. Stage's home page, menus and lists are the same for every visitor, and with Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 every page that depends on an entered password is sent with no-cache headers; use a cache that honours them (only such a cache was tested; see Known limitations).
- WordPress's emoji script is site policy and is left to the site.
