Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 · Pre-release

Installing Hype5 Stage

Stage is installed like any WordPress theme. Switching themes changes how menus and widgets are assigned, so plan a few minutes to check them afterwards.

Before you start

  • Check the requirements: WordPress 6.6 or later and PHP 8.1 or later.
  • On a live site, back up the database and the wp-content folder. Switching themes does not delete content, but menu locations, widget areas and theme settings are assigned per theme.
  • If you use Hype5 Theater, make sure it is version 0.7.0 (tested with Stage 1.0.2) or a 0.6.17 Phase 5K build; with an earlier build Stage works as a plain theme. See Version gate.

Install and activate

  1. Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme.
  2. Choose hype5-stage-1.0.2.zip. Its top-level folder is hype5-stage/.
  3. Select Install Now, then Activate.

You can use Live Preview before activating to see your site in Stage.

After activation

Check Where Why
Main menu Appearance → Menus, location Main menu The header shows top-level items only. Without a main menu Stage lists the Hype5 Theater collections and up to five top-level pages.
Footer menus Locations Footer: Explore and Footer: legal links Optional. Put deeper pages and legal pages here.
Footer columns Appearance → Widgets, area Footer columns Stage's widget area has its own ID, so another theme's footer widgets are not moved into it automatically.
Logo and site icon Appearance → Customise → Site Identity Upload a PNG logo; SVG uploads are not enabled.
Home page Settings → Reading and Customise → Hype5 Stage → Home page See Home page.
Theme settings Appearance → Customise → Hype5 Stage See Theme settings.
Hype5 Theater pages Open a production, a person and the schedule Stage presents them in its own design when the plugin is active.

Stage does not change Hype5 Theater's settings. If the plugin's clean single templates option is on, Stage keeps its own single templates through the plugin's documented filter, without changing the option.

Updating

Stage 1.0.2 has no automatic update channel. To update, upload the new ZIP in Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme and confirm that WordPress should replace the installed theme. Your Stage settings are kept. See Updating and troubleshooting.

From 1.0.1 to 1.0.2. Replace the theme files as above; nothing else is needed. 1.0.2 stores nothing new (no setting, option, post data or table), keeps your menus, widgets, logo and Customiser settings, and looks the same — only pages that involve password-protected productions behave differently. Afterwards, the template override report (Hype5 Theater → Settings → Advanced, or the System Status screen) should show every Stage template override as Current. You can go back by installing the 1.0.1 ZIP the same way, but with Hype5 Theater's Phase 5K build that brings back the issue 1.0.2 fixes, and Theater 0.7.0 does not support Stage 1.0.1 (see Changes in 1.0.2).

Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 is a pre-release build and is not yet distributed publicly; there is no public download or update for it yet.

Going back to another theme

Activate the other theme in Appearance → Themes. Stage's settings remain stored (as WordPress theme modifications) and return if you activate Stage again. Productions, people and performances are unaffected because Stage stores none of them. Check the other theme's menus and widgets afterwards.

Translations

Stage's texts are written in British English, and an Estonian translation is included. Other site languages show the English texts.
