Hype5 Stage 1.0.2 · Pre-release

Navigation, header and footer

Stage has one header menu, two footer menus and a footer widget area. The header shows top-level items only, by design.

On this page

Create menus in Appearance → Menus (or Customise → Menus) and assign them to Stage's locations:

Location Shown in Notes
Main menu The header and the mobile menu Top-level items only. The header has no drop-down menus; deeper items are not shown. Put deeper pages in a footer menu or link them from their parent page.
Footer: Explore The footer, under Explore Any number of links, one level. Shown only while the Footer columns widget area is empty.
Footer: legal links The footer's bottom line Privacy, accessibility and cookie pages, for example. Without this menu, Stage links WordPress's privacy policy page when one is set.

The current page and the section it belongs to are marked for assistive technology (aria-current), not only visually.

Without a main menu

If no menu is assigned to Main menu, Stage shows a simple menu of up to seven links: the Hype5 Theater collections — schedule, productions and people, named with the plugin's own labels — when the plugin is active, followed by up to five top-level pages (the front page excluded). Stage never invents other links.

From left to right: the logo (or the site title as a wordmark), the main menu, the header button, search and the Lights switch. On small screens the menu moves into the mobile menu.

  • Header button — Tickets by default, linking to the Hype5 Theater schedule. Change the text and link, or switch the button off, in Customise → Hype5 Stage → Header and footer. It is never a purchase link unless you enter one, and it is hidden when there is no link (for example without Hype5 Theater and no link entered).
  • Search — opens a search panel; without JavaScript it links to the search page. Can be switched off.
  • Lights — the colour-scheme switch; see Lights up, Lights down and System.

Mobile menu

On small screens a Menu button opens the mobile menu as a dialog: focus stays inside it, Esc closes it, and focus returns to the button. It contains the main menu, the next performance with a link (with Hype5 Theater), the Lights choice and a search field.

The footer has the site logo or name with a short text about the company, then either your widget columns or the Explore links, and a bottom line with the small print and legal links.

Part Source
Site logo or name Site Identity
About the company Customise → Hype5 Stage → Header and footer → Footer: about the company; defaults to the site tagline
Footer columns or Explore If the Footer columns widget area (Appearance → Widgets) has widgets, they are shown — up to four short columns, such as address, box-office hours and links — and the Explore column is not. If the area is empty, an Explore column shows the Footer: Explore menu, or, without that menu, the same fallback links as the header (Theater collections and top-level pages).
Small print Customise → Hype5 Stage → Header and footer → Footer: small print; defaults to © year and site name
Legal links The Footer: legal links menu, or the privacy policy link

So if you add widgets to Footer columns and still want the Explore links, add them as a Navigation Menu widget.

The Footer columns area has its own ID, deliberately outside WordPress's theme-switch mapping, so another theme's footer widgets are not pulled into it when you switch to Stage. Add widgets to it yourself.

Pages, posts and Hype5 Theater pages show a breadcrumb trail starting from Home. A private or draft parent page is not named in the trail.
