Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 · Beta — by invitation

Troubleshooting

Most problems come from a WordPress setting, a publication status or a permission. Start with System Status, then find your symptom below.

On this page

First: System Status

In the Hype5 app, open Settings → Advanced (Täpsem); Continue in WordPress: System status opens the System Status screen, which also works when the app cannot load (classic menu: Hype5 Theater → System Status; address wp-admin/admin.php?page=hype5t-status). It shows the plugin and database versions, WordPress and PHP versions, the site time zone, the state of each plugin table and theme template overrides. Check that every table is Ready and that no override shows Review recommended or Missing or malformed version.

Pages and addresses

Production or person pages show not found

  • Permalinks are Plain. Choose any structure other than Plain in Settings → Permalinks. With plain addresses the plugin's permalink bases are not used.
  • Address rules are out of date. Open Settings → Permalinks and select Save Changes once; this refreshes WordPress's address rules.
  • A permalink base was changed. Changing a base changes every address of that kind, and Hype5 adds no redirects. Old links stop working; add redirects yourself or change the base back. See Settings.
  • The person's profile page is not allowed. A person with Allow public profile page switched off returns not found to visitors by design. See People.

A collection address redirects to another page

A collection page has been chosen in Appearance. The built-in address redirects to that page (HTTP 302). Choose Built-in page to undo it.

Content not shown

A production does not appear in lists or the schedule

Check, in this order:

  1. Is it published? Drafts, pending, scheduled and private productions are not public.
  2. Does it have a password? Password-protected productions are never shown with dates, offers or credits in lists, person profiles or the general schedule. See Security and content visibility.
  3. On a multilingual site: does any language version have a password, or is the reader's-language version unpublished?
  4. Is the list filtered by context? [hype5_productions] shows current productions by default (playing, on hold or without repertory status); coming-soon and archived productions need context="upcoming", "archive" or "all".

A performance does not appear

  • Its production must be published without a password.
  • By default schedules show future performances; use a date window, past="1" or include_past="1" for earlier ones.
  • Check the schedule's filters (production, venue, city, status) in the address or shortcode attributes.

The venue name is missing from a schedule

Public pages name a venue only while it is published. A trashed or draft venue is not named; a permanently deleted venue is removed from its performances.

The profile is not published, or Allow public profile page is off, or the credit uses a name without a profile.

Tickets

There is no ticket button

A button appears only for a future performance with occurrence status Scheduled, on an offer that has a web address and availability Available or Unknown. See Ticket offers.

Editing

Credits are read-only

  • You need the manage credits permission (manage_hype5t_credits) as well as permission to edit the production.
  • On a translation, credits are always read-only: edit them on the original-language production.

A field says it was changed elsewhere

Someone saved the same field after you opened the record. Choose Use saved value or Keep mine; your other changes are kept. See The Hype5 app.

A record is read-only with someone's name

Someone else is editing it (in the app or the classic editor) and holds WordPress's edit lock. Wait, or choose Take over.

A term cannot be deleted

A vocabulary term can be deleted only when no record uses it — drafts, private records and the Trash count — and no other term is under it. Pause it instead. A deleted starting term is added again on the next database update; pause it if you do not want it offered. See Vocabularies.

I cannot change custom CSS or Appearance

Appearance needs manage_options (normally administrators). Custom CSS also needs edit_css, which WordPress removes when DISALLOW_UNFILTERED_HTML is set and limits to super admins on multisite.

The Hype5 app

Hype5 Theater opens the old menu instead of the app

Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar opens the Hype5 app for everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission. If you see the classic submenu (Overview, Content, Schedule, …) instead, the app is switched off on your site — with define('HYPE5_THEATER_FUAJEE', false); in wp-config.php, or for some users by a site plugin with the hype5_theater_fuajee_enabled filter — or the plugin package is incomplete (the app's files are missing; the classic menu then has a Hype5 app entry that says so). If you see no Hype5 Theater entry at all, you have no Hype5 Theater administration permission: ask a site administrator. See The Hype5 app.

An old bookmark opens the app

Plain addresses of the classic screens that the app replaces open the matching app screen. To reach the classic screen on purpose, add &classic=1 to the address. See Old addresses.

The app shows only a message

The app needs JavaScript. Without it, it shows a message with links to the WordPress list of productions and (for users who may change settings) to System Status, which keep working.

An older production is missing from the app's list

The app lists the 500 most recently changed productions. Use Open the WordPress list under the app's productions list for older ones, and for bulk actions, Trash and Quick Edit.

Dates and times

Performances are on the wrong day or at the wrong time

  • Set a named time zone (for example Europe/Tallinn) in Settings → General, not a UTC offset.
  • Each performance keeps its own time zone. A tour date abroad is shown in its local time, with its zone when it differs from the site's.

A time is refused

The time does not exist on that date because clocks go forward (daylight saving). Choose another time.

Database

Hype5 Theater database setup is incomplete

A database update could not finish, usually because the database user may not create or alter tables. Ask your host to grant those permissions; the update is retried on later admin page loads. System Status shows which tables are not Ready.

Saving performances fails on some hosts

Saving performances uses InnoDB transactions and a named database lock (GET_LOCK). Ask your host whether these are available. See Requirements.
