Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 · Beta — by invitation

Public display and themes

Every production and person has its own page, and the productions list, people directory and schedule have built-in addresses. You can also place any of them, or parts of a production, on your own pages.

On this page

Single pages

Page Address (default bases) Notes
Production /productions/hamlet/ Hero and sections in the order set in Appearance. Archived productions keep their address.
Person /people/mari-maasikas/ Only when the profile page is allowed. See People.
Venue /venues/main-stage/ Venues have no archive list.
Genre /theater-genre/drama/ The public address of a genre term.

The bases can be changed in Settings → Permalinks — before the site is public, because Hype5 adds no redirects from old addresses.

Collections

Collection Built-in address Shortcode Block
Productions the productions archive, /productions/ by default [hype5_productions] Theater productions
People the people archive, /people/ by default [hype5_people] —
Schedule /?hype5_collection=schedule [hype5_schedule] Theater schedule

Collections have a filter bar and pagination, and read their filters from the address (for example ?hype5_genre=drama), so a filtered list can be bookmarked. See Queries and URL parameters.

Using your own page for a collection

To show a collection inside a page of your own — with your own introduction, for example:

  1. Create a page that contains the matching shortcode, for example [hype5_schedule], and publish it.
  2. Choose it as the collection page: Appearance → Lists and pages → Collection pages in the Hype5 app (classic menu: Appearance → Collections → Collection routes).

The built-in address then redirects (HTTP 302) to your page, keeping filter parameters. Choosing Built-in page again removes the choice. Individual production and person pages keep their addresses.

Placing content in pages and posts

  • Shortcodes place whole collections, a whole production or person, or single parts such as the cast, the schedule of one production or the gallery. They work in the Classic Editor, in a Shortcode block and in page builders that render shortcodes. In the Classic Editor of posts and pages, Insert Hype5 content next to Add Media inserts them for you. See Shortcodes.
  • Blocks: Theater productions and Theater schedule, in the block editor's Widgets category. They render exactly like the matching shortcodes. See Blocks.

Examples:

[hype5_productions context="upcoming" layout="cards"]
[hype5_schedule range="month" group_by="none"]
[hype5_production_cast id="487" images="none"]

Every display option can be given as a shortcode attribute and wins over the production's own Display settings and the global Appearance. See Shortcodes → Display options.

Productions placed on other pages. A production shown with [hype5_production], the other production shortcodes or blocks, or [hype5_schedule production="…"] on a page other than its own shows its details only while it is public to everyone (Theater 0.7.0). A password-protected production shows its title and the password form there, also after the visitor has entered the password; the form opens the production's own page, where the password unlocks it. Such pages therefore never depend on a visitor's password and are safe for page caches. See Security and content visibility.

How it looks

  • The Appearance studio sets layouts, sections, colours and public texts for the whole site; productions and people can override them under Display.
  • Style mode decides how much of Hype5's own design is applied: Hype5 (full Hype5 styling), Hybrid (inherits more of the theme's typography and colour) or Minimal (functional layout and focus styles only).
  • Custom CSS in Appearance is added after the plugin's styles. Scope rules to .hype5 to leave the theme unchanged. See CSS and design tokens.

Themes

Hype5 Theater works with classic and block themes. Its pages are rendered through the plugin's own templates inside your theme's header and footer.

  • Clean single templates (Settings → Content): use the plugin's own single-page template for productions, people and venues instead of the theme's single-post layout. A theme can keep its own template; Hype5 Stage does.
  • Template overrides: a theme can copy any public plugin template into a hype5-theater/ folder and change its markup. Templates receive prepared data only, so an override cannot bypass visibility rules. System Status reports each override as Current or Review recommended. See Template overrides.
  • Hype5 Stage is a theme built for the plugin: it restyles production, person, venue and schedule pages and builds a home page from the schedule. See Hype5 Theater integration.
