Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 · Beta — by invitation

Compatibility screens

The Hype5 app is where Hype5 Theater is managed. The plugin's WordPress screens remain for compatibility: tasks the app hands to WordPress, diagnostics, and sites that switch the app off.

On this page

The classic screens are the plugin's WordPress administration pages and the standard WordPress lists and editors of its content types. Data entered in them and in the Hype5 app is the same data.

  • With the Hype5 app, they are compatibility screens: they are not in the menu — Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar opens the app — and the app links to them where it hands a task to WordPress. They are not a second administration to work in.
  • Without the Hype5 app — only when the site switched the app off (the HYPE5_THEATER_FUAJEE constant, or a site plugin for some users) or the app's files are missing from the package — the classic Hype5 Theater menu is shown as before (see below). Since Theater 0.7.0 everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission otherwise has the app, also users whose only permission is Settings, Vocabularies or Appearance; a user whose only Hype5 permission is editing credits has neither the app nor the classic menu (credits are edited inside a production).

Every classic screen keeps its address, its permission and its forms, so links from other plugins and saved forms keep working.

With the Hype5 app

Old addresses

A plain address of a classic screen that the app replaces opens the matching app screen:

Classic address (wp-admin/…) Opens in the app
admin.php?page=hype5-theater (Overview) Overview
admin.php?page=hype5t-performances (Schedule) Schedule
admin.php?page=hype5t-settings, with &tab=appearance, permalinks, templates or shortcodes Settings → General, Permalinks, Content or Editor compatibility
admin.php?page=hype5t-addons (Add-ons) Settings → Integrations
admin.php?page=hype5t-lists (Vocabularies) Vocabularies
admin.php?page=hype5t-appearance (Appearance) Appearance
post-new.php?post_type=hype5t_production (Add Production) Productions → New production
post-new.php?post_type=hype5t_venue (Add Venue) Venues → New venue

Only plain addresses (the page, and the tab of Settings) are sent to the app, and only when your role may open that app screen. An address with anything else keeps the classic screen: the result of a classic save, a filter, a production's schedule, a vocabulary, an Appearance section, or &classic=1 added on purpose (for example admin.php?page=hype5t-settings&classic=1). Form submissions, admin-post.php and admin-ajax.php requests are never redirected.

Compatibility screens

These stay WordPress screens and are opened from the app:

Screen Opened from the app For
System Status (admin.php?page=hype5t-status) Settings → Advanced → Continue in WordPress: System status; Settings → WordPress screens Diagnostics; works even when the app cannot load
WordPress lists of productions, people and venues Open the WordPress list under each app list Bulk actions, Trash, Quick Edit; productions beyond the 500 most recent
Classic Editor of a production, person or venue Open in the WordPress editor in the editor menu Author, comments, revisions; panels added by other plugins
Classic Appearance Appearance → Open the WordPress Appearance screen The classic form of the same settings
Classic Vocabularies and term screens Vocabularies → Continue in WordPress The classic form of the same terms

On these screens the Hype5 Theater entry stays highlighted, and Open in Hype5 app in the WordPress toolbar (and on list rows) returns to the matching app screen. Adding a person stays in the app (a dialog on People or in Credits); the WordPress Add Person screen is not redirected.

Pages that other plugins register under Hype5 Theater stay in the menu, below an entry that opens the app.

Without the Hype5 app: the classic menu

Since Theater 0.7.0 everyone with a Hype5 Theater administration permission uses the app, so this menu appears only when the app is switched off — for the whole site with define('HYPE5_THEATER_FUAJEE', false);, or for some users with the hype5_theater_fuajee_enabled filter in a site plugin — or when the plugin package is incomplete (see Who can open it). Each item then appears under its own permission:

Menu item Purpose Permission
Overview Counts, next performances, recently updated productions, quick actions. edit_hype5t_productions
Content WordPress lists and editors of productions, people and venues (switch between them in the content navigation). the content type's edit permission
Schedule The schedule: filtered list, Quick Add, Add Multiple Dates, Tour Entry, Duplicate, Create replacement performance, bulk actions. manage_hype5t_performances
Vocabularies Classifications: genres, audience recommendations, warnings, professions — add, edit, deactivate, reactivate, delete when unused. manage_hype5t_settings (taxonomy permissions)
Settings Display integration, Permalink bases, Single-page layout, Classic Editor & shortcodes. manage_hype5t_settings
Appearance Appearance panels, Text & Labels, Custom CSS; content types (option lists); collection routes. manage_options (custom CSS also edit_css)
Add-ons Registered add-ons and whether each is compatible. manage_hype5t_settings
System Status Versions, tables, template override report. manage_hype5t_settings

If the plugin's compiled app files are missing (an incomplete installation), users of the app keep this classic menu too, which then also lists a Hype5 app entry that says what is missing.

The WordPress editors

When a production, person or venue is opened in WordPress (from the app's Open in the WordPress editor, a WordPress list, or the classic menu), it opens in the Classic Editor, whatever editor the rest of the site uses. The editors keep WordPress's own title, content editor, publish box, permalink, revisions and Screen Options; Hype5's fields are in panels below the content:

  • Production: tabs Story, Credits, Dates, Media, Visitor info and More (links and partners, display).
  • Person: profile details (birth date, visibility switches, sort name, company relationship, ELAB), gallery, display.
  • Venue: location details, arrival, accessibility defaults, coordinates.

Save with WordPress's Publish / Update button; there is no separate Hype5 save. Performances are not saved with the production; they are edited in the Schedule.

When the classic screens are used

  • For tasks the app hands to WordPress (see Compatibility screens): productions beyond the 500 most recent in the app list, bulk actions, Trash and Quick Edit for productions, author, comments and revisions, and diagnostics when the app cannot load.
  • When the Hype5 app is switched off on your site (or for you).
  • With WordPress panels added by other plugins (shown under WordPress & extensions in the production editor).

Working alongside the app

  • Both use WordPress's edit lock for productions, people and venues: while one person edits in the app, the classic editor shows WordPress's lock dialog, and the other way round.
  • A classic edit form that was opened before a newer save elsewhere does not overwrite the newer values when it is submitted: fields changed elsewhere are kept and the editor says so. The classic Schedule forms and bulk actions refuse a stale save with a notice.

Inserting content in posts and pages

In the Classic Editor of posts and pages, Insert Hype5 content next to Add Media inserts a shortcode: a production grid, the performance schedule, a full production or person profile, or a single part of one. Developers can change the post types with the hype5t_classic_inserter_post_types filter. See Shortcodes.
