The minimum WordPress and PHP versions are those declared in each product's header (Requires at least, Requires PHP); tested up to comes from Hype5 Theater's release metadata and Hype5 Stage's theme header. Declared is not the same as tested: for Hype5 Theater 0.7.0, WordPress 7.1.3 with PHP 8.3 was tested, WordPress 6.6.2 and PHP 8.4 only in limited runs, and PHP 8.1 and 8.2 not at all. Which versions and integrations were tested is on Compatibility.
Hype5 Theater
Software
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.6 or later (plugin header Requires at least); tested up to 7.1 (release metadata). |
| PHP | 8.1 or later (plugin header Requires PHP). The Hype5 app also uses PHP's mbstring functions. |
| Database | MySQL or MariaDB as supported by your WordPress version. The performance and ticket-offer tables are created with the InnoDB engine; saving performances uses transactions and a named database lock (GET_LOCK). The database user must be allowed to create tables. |
| Theme | Any classic or block theme. Hype5 Stage is a theme built for the plugin, but it is not required. |
WordPress configuration
- Permalinks. Use a permalink structure other than Plain. With plain addresses (
?p=123) the plugin's permalink bases are not used. - Time zone. Set a named time zone in Settings → General (for example Europe/Tallinn). Schedule date filters, the Overview week and the default time zone of new performances follow it.
- Editor. No Classic Editor plugin is needed. Hype5 content is edited in the Hype5 app; when a production, person or venue is opened in WordPress's own editor, Hype5 always uses the Classic Editor for it and leaves the editor of every other post type unchanged.
- Multisite. Network activation is refused. Activate the plugin separately on each site.
Optional
- A translation plugin for multilingual sites. Polylang was tested with 0.7.0; WPML was not (it was only simulated) and is not a supported integration for 0.7.0. See Compatibility and Multilingual sites.
- Block editor. Two blocks are available when the block editor is used on pages or posts. Shortcodes work without it.
Browser for the Hype5 app
The Hype5 app is a JavaScript application inside wp-admin; Hype5 Theater in the WordPress sidebar opens it. Without JavaScript it shows a message with links to the WordPress list of productions and (for users who may change settings) to System Status, which keep working. The compatibility screens use standard WordPress administration pages.
Hype5 Stage
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.6 or later; tested up to 7.1 (theme header). |
| PHP | 8.1 or later. |
| Hype5 Theater | Optional. The theatre templates and the Marquee home page are enabled only with Hype5 Theater 0.7.0 (tested; presentation API 1.0) or a 0.6.17 Phase 5K build; without it (or with an earlier 0.6.17 build) Stage works as a theme for pages and posts. |
| Logo | A PNG (or other image WordPress accepts) of at least twice the displayed size. WordPress does not accept SVG uploads, and Stage does not enable them. |
| Home page film (optional) | Self-hosted WebM and/or MP4 files in the media library. Embedded videos from other sites cannot be used as a background. |
| Content Security Policy | If your site sends a CSP that forbids inline styles, allow Stage's inline <style> element or switch the cascade layering off. See Compatibility and troubleshooting. |
Checking a site
After installing Hype5 Theater, the System Status screen (Hype5 Theater → Settings → Advanced → Continue in WordPress: System status) lists the plugin and database versions, the WordPress and PHP versions, the site time zone and whether each plugin table is Ready. See Installation.
